Advanced Techniques M2

A Detailed Breakdown of a Creation of an Advanced Image

I have chosen a small badge to be my advanced image. Below is a detailed 'how to' description of the badge.

Stage One

The first thing that you need to do is find an image you want to make a badge out of. Copy this image into Photoshop by copying and pasting the image into it. You can do this by opening the image in paint then pressing ctrl + a to select all the image, ctrl + c to copy the image. Then go into photoshop and press ctrl + v. The image should appear.

Stage Two

The second thing to do is to select an area you want to make into the badge. Use the Eliptical Marquee Tool to make a circle. With this area selected you then need to create a levels adjustment layer. To do this make sure the selection is selected and then press the layer tab, in the drop down menu you need to press new adjustment layer and then select layers. In the open window just press ok and the layer will be done.

Stage Three

Now you need to add a bevel layer style to the selection. To do this you need to press the effects tab which is located at the top right of the program. You then need to choose layer styles and choose bevels. All you need to do then is to drag the simple emboss style on to the selection. This will give the selection the emboss.

Stage Four

On the layers palette you need to press the fx symbol on the image layer. This can look like an F or FX symbol. In the Style Settings window, adjust the layer style settings. For example, check Drop Shadow and adjust the sliders to create a drop shadow. After this press OK.

Stage Five

Finally all you need to do now is to move the levels adjustment layer above the image. Then you need to press CTRL + G to make a clipping group. This will make the badge. The final thing is shown below.
